A look at TV news channels of today
Of late the Tamil Television has found a new way to attract audience. The formula is an interesting one. The success is assured and added is the advantage of being a good Samaritan. Let me highlight this to you.
The programmes generally would be audience based, studio ones. They would research for people oppressed, in some kind of need. These could be sidelined people because they are physically challenged or made outcast by the society for one reason or the other. Once their real situation is highlighted, the programme producers themselves take the initiative in helping them. The help could be financial or putting them in touch with somebody in power who could help. Further the audience watching the programme are also entertained to come forward and help. Once this part is over the programme continues in its usual style. The original audience of course see the programme but also those who get touched by this gesture watch the programme. From the producers point of view it is a win-win situation from all directions. Added audience, good name and of course Punya (effect of a sacred deed)!!
A dance director Lawrence is one of the latest amongst the group doing such a job. In his programme Mastana, Mastana on Sun TV he brings a physically challenged person every week and talks about his plight. Last week it was about an Athletics champion who lost one of his legs in an accident. Despite being mobile because of his wooden leg, he has failed to get any job. A job was given to him in the programme by Lawrence himself. The person was touched. His emotions obviously, touched many others including those watching the programme on air. Superstar Rajnikant of Tamil Films also promised to this cause by Lawrence.
Earlier Vitchchu in his debate shows on Sun TV used to do the same. In all another success formula for the small screen.
Irrespective of whether this is commercial minded or not… the good effort on part of these television samaritans is more than welcome. Keep up the good work!
